It is believed that the future development and impact of artificial intelligence could be either beneficial or detrimental to our daily lives. Although I agree with the assertion of intelligent technology might bring several drawbacks, the returns are still highly justifiable.
As artificial intelligence is becoming an integral part of modern society, it is possible to view this intelligent technology as a serious threat to the job market. In the modern working environment, human jobs might be threatened by the increasing intelligence of technology. There might be a great number of trendsetting technologies, such as automated cars, chatbots, or voice-activated virtual assistants, which are expected to perform daily automatable tasks done by mankind. For example, self-driving vehicles in several Western countries can actually use modern sensors and cameras to automate themselves, and people have experienced Google’s robots delivering fast foods. This has been linked to the redundancy of human labour, affecting detrimentally the unemployed as they will gradually be deskilled and lose their sense of life purpose.
However, the acceleration of technological change could bring some obvious benefits. Firstly, machine learning technologies allow robots to streamline most occupations in areas requiring sophisticated levels of expertise by accessing big data. Surgical procedures assisted by those robots are being utilized in a great number of hospitals with greater precision, fostering the integration of artificial intelligence to assist not only doctors but also patients. Secondly, since intelligent machines are not limited by human biological entities, these machines can function for long hours and experience no physical or sentimental feelings. This means that human can utilize intelligent technological machinery for research and exploration, such as discovering new planets or travel to the deep ocean.
In conclusion, while the emerging intelligent machines will no doubt improve our lives, the potential risks of such technologies should not be ignored.
