Overall, the two tunnel systems have a great number of differences in terms of the costs, size, length, time of construction and the surrounding geology. It is clear that the second tunnel was significantly more outstanding than the first one.
The first tunnel, which took 12 years to be completely constructed, cost 555 million dollars. On the other hand, the second tunnel took only 4 years to complete but required twice as much as the construction costs of the first tunnel, at 1.1 million dollars. The first tunnel system was built underneath bodies of water and sand, while there was a composition of stone and clay lying on the top of the second system.
According to the size, the first tunnel infrastructure is smaller, at 1,5 meters high and 2,2 kilometers long compared to 2,5 meters and 3,6 kilometers of the second infrastructure’s height and length respectively.
