IELTS Writing Task 2: Bài mẫu về "Choices"

Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is true that modern life presents humankind with an overwhelming number of choices. I completely agree with this, and I perceive that the Internet and globalisation are the major factors involved.

As the Internet is becoming more accessible to the public, there is a dramatic expansion in the number of choices for any Internet user. In the Cyberspace world, music streaming and on-demand TV websites become the main sources of entertainment in individuals’ daily lives. With the help of online media services, such as Netflix or Spotify, Internet users will no longer have to wait for their favourite tunes or TV shows to be broadcast on traditional media options. The abundance of different online learning and teaching marketplaces, especially Udemy, means that students can have full control and be able to design their own learning curriculums by choosing suitable teachers, courses and timetables. It is no surprise that the outburst of these online education platforms has been linked to a rise in self-studying habits as well as higher academic achievements amongst Internet learners.

Alongside the influence of the Internet, the trend towards people’s choice overload might derive from globalisation. Since a great number of different countries around the world have opened borders for interstate transportation and trade, not only their citizens but also companies could benefit from cheaper international flights. Such development would be associated with more travel and business opportunities on a global scale, which are factors that are known to form the world’s healthy and sustainable economy. The same is true for the increasing tendency for young people, especially those in Asian countries, to study abroad as they are left to their own devices to choose preferable universities instead of living their parents' expectation. This would be conducive to higher motivation towards their studies, thereby reducing college dropout rates.

In conclusion, although the ideas that our society is facing an excessive quantity of options in every aspect of life might sound detrimental, I believe the benefits could outweigh the drawbacks.
