It is believed that news media has played a significant role in different aspects of our modern world. Although the news industry can be harmful to some people, I personally perceive that the returns can be highly justifiable.

On the one hand, it is important for newsreaders to be comprehensive about the drawbacks of news media. As the Internet has been a democratic and fertile ground for either news firms or individual publishers to produce original content and share it with the world, newsreaders could experience an overwhelming amount of volume and diversity of news content. To keep such content available and complimentary for Internet users, news publishers have to compete with rivals to earn the right to monetize their work by giving advertisers the opportunity to constantly bombard their audiences. The harsh competition between those publishers, however, might be highly conducive to the urge of creating unreliable and even false news. Catchwords, fake titles or clickbait have been used in news creating procedures in order to lure the attention of newsreaders, which can be harmful as this could affect readers’ intuition or even manipulate their judgement.

On the other hand, there are several benefits of news media that should be concerned. Firstly, since the age of connected devices has led to the proliferation of digital publishing platforms such as online news or news blogs, readers could participate in a great number of global media sources instantly and with many professional publishers around the planet. These readers can browse and subscribe to almost any source of news with the comfort from their own homes. Secondly, the outburst of online content has offered publishers lucrative chances from digital advertising agencies. For example, TV shows, podcasts, digital print as well as other means of online media have been able to monetize the content they create while keeping consumer costs to a minimum by selling ad spaces, turning these online media industries into the lifeblood of our digital economy.

In conclusion, while the potential risks of news media can be detrimental to people’s daily life, I strongly believe the benefits can outweigh the drawbacks.
